Today I received two emails from HMRC. Neither emails had any references so I have no clue who they might be for. I will assume they are for me.
The first says that I have not paid my tax and then goes into a lot of details about how to pay it. That was this morning. Then mid afternoon another email came through (no reference again) calling me a "Customer" - this time it said that if I hadnt paid I should then said I should look a U-tube channel on how you pay.
They really are the most confusing emails I have every received. Who on earth thinks this rubbish up each year.

Was it from [email protected] with Nigerian bank account details?
Well that's a genuine address (unless it's an alias behind which lurks someone else) that is used by the brain-dead HMRC urchins responsible for sending you "links to relevant online digital education products".
But the first email (which I presume purports to come from somewhere else?) has a message (based on what you say) more akin to the get-rich-quick merchants out there. And I certainly wouldn't click on any links within an unsolicited email.
I paid my tax through the Government Gateway using my login details yesterday. It put me through to my bank account, asked for the usual login details, 2SV etc and the confirmation email said "Dear Customer". I was astounded. Just checked. It is not showing up on HMRC yet but it looks legit in my bank account.
