If I bring forward the ARD at Companies House (online) does HMRC get notified automatically and adjust the AP accordingly or do I have to notify them separately (can't find any online way of doing this)?

I'm sure they did - but apparently this is no longer the case - you just have to ring the CT office.
Good luck with that!

We've never had an issue changing the ARD and then just filing the CT600 for the dates we changed it too, HMRC will update on receipt of the return.

Problem is that date of incorporation and start of trading both 1 November 2018 so ARD is 30 November. HMRC (rightly) have first AP as ending 31 October 2019 and second ending 30 November 2019. So if I shorten Company’s House period to end on 31 October and so need only one CT600, I am not convinced that HMRC will pick up that second AP should be changed to 31 October 2020.

Am I over thinking this? Appreciate I could alternatively just submit two CT600s. . .

You don't think they'll notice that you've prepared and attached accounts to 31 October 2019, do you ?

Yes, it's a bit of a nuisance having to submit two returns but the software does the work, doesn't it ? You just need to check it.
