Current Iris cost

Just wondering what other people are paying for Iris?

Didn't find your answer?

I have been using Iris for a few years now and the service is poor and the cost extravogant. The software though is very good.

I currently have 49 accounts production licences and double for personal tax (for 1 user) and have been quoted £3.1k per annum plus VAT.

Just wondered if others think this is extortionante?

Xero Tax looks very good from what i have seen and can file accounts and CT straight from Xero and so I am considering switching over to this going forward. Has anyone else had any experience of using Xero Tax yet as wouldnt mind others opinions on it?

Thanks!

Rob.

Sounds a complete RIP off.

VT accounts £150
Moneysoft £100
Tax cal around around £800

Taxcac has shot up in price over last 2 - 3 years. Used to pay around £400.

Dumped iris 2 years ago and never looked back. Took over key time, tech support were useless and doubled renew costs in the space of a year. Disgusting service. Will never use another iris product.

Last year I will use them unless they reduce costs. Renewal Team are awful and they use tactics to charge as much as possible . Been a customer since 1996 but they are getting worse.

Beware of conmen who never disclose their costs in a prominent position

It just amazes me that anyone is still with Iris, taxfiler is 10% of what you pay for unlimited accounts, ct, sa etc!

That may well be true but in the intervening years we have saved ourselves thousands of pounds, my point still stands why is anyone in their right mind paying 10 times more for Iris?

Its general a question of whether the costs of integration outweigh the cost of rekeying data.

For me that was a big fat "no" when I started out.

Right now i guess we might manage to squeeze in another couple of tax returns a year but its marginal at best. Its certainly not worth thousands a year.

Depends what other account software you use and how you have it set up

We used to use IRIS and used the following modules

1. Accounts Production
2. Business Tax
3. Personal Tax
4. Practice Management
5. Time and Fees
6. Automail
7. Fixed Asset Register

When we came round for renewal following our 3 year fixed contract the price went up by 43% on what we were paying with prices in the future to go up by 5-10% year on year.

I knew then that was the time to move

We now use Taxcalc which effectively replaces; Accounts Production, Personal Tax, Business Tax, Auto Mail. Plus Taxcalc is easier to use than IRIS, more intuitive and runs faster. Only thing it doesnt do is charity accounts but we only have 1 charity now which we just outsource to be prepared.

We also use WhatsGlide which effectively replaces; Practice Management, Time and Fees but has the added bonus of automated emails and texts to chase clients for info which IRIS didnt have.

For Fixed Asset Register we use good old excel as working papers are in an excel template anyway.

The cost of Taxcalc and Glide now is less than 50% of our renewal fee for IRIS two years ago (will probably be about a third of the price if got a quote for IRIS now for what we had 2 years ago).

Those that are still with IRIS are probably those who have used it for years, have 10 plus staff and are that entrenched that it would take a real big price hike for them to move.

Anyone new entering as a start up would be mad to start with IRIS as there are better best in breed softwares in my opinion.

IRIS really do RIP people off.

I had one of their products once, decided to give notice to stop using it but as it was a yearly renewal and I cancelled with 3 months of the renewal date, they said I had to keep paying for a further 15 months from date of notice of cancellation. They should really be reported to trading standards.

Woah. EIGHT THOUSAND. Eight THOUSAND pounds. For software? Eight THOUSAND pounds. £50 pound PER CLIENT. Wow. Just wow. That's a staggering sum of money.

I have just over 100 ltd co clients and 300 personal tax.

I pay just over £1k a year on software (tax, accounts production, payroll) and it would be the same price if I had 1000 clients.

I probably lose at most £100 a month on "re keying" cost of not being fully integrated, but its not 2-3 hours of admin per client worth.

It's pretty clear that IRIS is just not a worthwhile expense for the vast majority of small practices. Changed several years ago to Taxcalc. No regrets.

I think meadowsaw227 must be pulling our legs. No software provider would charge that much. If they are then you are being scammed.

Probably is correct.

We were quoted £9500 + VAT 2 years ago for 200 clients and 3 users.
