DBS service online account

What's the point of this?

Didn't find your answer?

I've just had a message that if I didn't login to my DBS account it would cease to exist, as my last login was 17 months ago, when I acquired my DBS certificate. So with great difficulty I worked out how to find the place to login and couldn't see any reason I'd want to use the account and logged out.

I presume we need to keep these accounts current, but is this necessary?

I don't think you need to keep the account current, but am not entirely sure.

I'm pretty sure I printed something off and gave it to our compliance partner for his file. He hasn't asked me to go in and re-print anything or re-apply for anything so I assume I'm now covered for a period of time until it runs out. If, at that time, I've kept my login/account 'active' it may save me a few minutes but if not I'll just create a new account like I did last time(?)

DBS is disclosure and barring service and we've all had to have a certificate declaring we've not got a criminal record since at least May 18, when I applied for my certificate.
The login details aren't shown on the paperwork they sent. We had to set up a separate login and password at the time of application. Luckily I had a note of that. I just found it very difficult to work out where to login. A helpful person at DBS talked me through where to do this and I've made a note of it for the future.

As Moonbeam says, DBS certificated have been required for well over a year now (I think the deadline for compliance was June 2018, according to an old email I found).

This is due to the updated (2017) Money Laundering Regulations and only applies to partners/principals/owners/MLROs etc (or BOOMS as The Institute and others call them)

Whether you still need it if HMRC supervise you I've got no idea. I expect so but ICAEW are our supervisors.

You can also use the online account to set up for continuous reporting. A college I was a governor at set this up. It mens that you never need to apply for another DBS as it is just kelpt up to date. You supply anyone that needs to see it with your existing certificate and they log in and see that it's still valid or whatever!!
