Debt collectors letter re 17/18 balancing payment!

Client received a debt collectors letter this morning re 17/18 balancing payment

Didn't find your answer?

Unbelievable! We prepared a clients tax return for 17/18 very early in May. There was a balancing payment for that 17/18 of just under 2,000 payable in January 2019! Payments on account are all up to date too.

This morning he received a debt collectors letter chasing the17/18 balancing payment and charging interest!

Has any one else experienced this?

Very strange. Will call HMRC Monday of course!

How odd. Did he claim to reduce the POA?

How come clients always seem to receive debt collection letters at weekends?!

No there was no need to reduce payments on account so indeed very odd!
But my understanding is that HMRC don’t come on heavy over late payments on account anyway they just charge interest but not an issue here.

It's not for an unpaid, overdue 31 July 2018 payment on account? If so, I saw one of these just today in fact.
