Deep Joy - Intrastat

After 18 months off, I have fallen foul

Didn't find your answer?

Whilst this could be a good news story, I regret to report that I have fallen into the Intrastat regime for dispatches again, after a lucky 18 months off.

Oh, how I missed having to do this!

Yes, particularly submitting monthly NIL returns whereas EC Sales lists don't.

Roll on Brexit

What are the chances that all this EU related admin will disappear?

Brussells might not allow us an escape from Intrastat as that might reduce burdens on small businesses.

There are in fact proposed further admin burdens that are likely to harm small businesses in the UK, and it may well be that as part of the exit / trade negotations our politicians capitulate and accept all these new / existing burdens, for those interested here are some of the new burdens that Brussells wants to impose on us:

# Operator licensing for those owning vans (including UK to be obliged to report the number of vans / operators of vans to to the EU)

# An equivalent of VAT MOSS for those selling goods B2C to Europe

The problem is that one of the following might apply:

1. The UK has a higher proportion of small businesses than other member states so it is not possible for the EU to understand any small business requirements in the UK
2. Imposing burdens on small businesses helps multinationals who appear to be more in favour with the EU
3. Some of those employed in Brussells might have an attitude that "the more regulation the better"
4. Creating new burdens keeps people in jobs in Brussells - they need to keep job opportunities for those who have a skill for imposing regulatory burdens
