We use AE and mainly sage, what are people's experiences with both and is there one we believe to be better than the other?
Lots of clients are moving over to Xero so with them owning Dext I wonder if that is better suited? Of course Sage own AE.
Also, what issues have you all had with either of them?

Xero own Hubdoc not Dext.
We use Dext as it worked out cheaper than AE for us with all of our clients on QBO & Xero. We do not use Hubdoc with Xero even though it is free as the additional costs and learning curve for staff means it is more cost effective to use just one system for all clients irrespective of what platform they are on.
You'll notice bigger differences between Sage and Xero. Avoid Hubdoc - it's free for a reason.
AE and Dext very similar - the biggest difference being that AE price on volume whereas Dext price on features (generally). For me Dext has better bookkeeping features for accountants but line item extraction is better on AE, for example.
We use AE as they price per global transaction (ie across your portfolio) rather than per client. Take Contractors for example who have at most 10 items a month. AE =10x15p=£1.50pcm, Dext =£20(?)pcm.
Not aware of Xero owning DEXT? Xero own HUBDOC not DEXT. HUBDOC is poor compared to both auto-entry and DEXT
