Hopefully my CIMA does too - or else I probably haven't been a member these last 20 years..

Don't like DDs on principal and also the MiP fee is tied into the renewal. But when do they take the DD?

You've never paid anything by direct debit ?

Are you still on cheques ?

A surprising revelation by the Head of Debits.

I don't have DDs for anything, nver liked the idea. I insist on a quarterly electric bill, and won't have a smart meter. I don't do cheques these days though, and hate receiving them because my local bank branch has closed.

Support your local subpostmaster and pay them in at your post office then!

I like direct debits - they just save so much time. Never had a problem apart from the occasional "stop being silly" conversation with power companies.

The reason that I dont like Direct Debits is that one month ( a few years ago) took out £10,000 for business rates instead of £1000. It took a lot of effort to get the money back

You sound like my grandmother. (Dead nearly 20 years). She spent a whole day paying her bills going into the electricity shop, the gas shop, drawing out her pension at the post office and taking it to the bank. As a teenager I convinced her (my mum had been trying for years) to put everything on DD. She listened to me having slipped on the step of the bank one winters day.

I don't however have a smart-meter. But that is mainly as I used to work in metering and I am biased against them having seen the test results for the early models which was to put it bluntly, dog do do with pot luck if it would over or underrecord by 20% or more, and might take your WIFI through electricity sockets extenders as power use.

Jan / Feb if I recall.

Would much prefer a monthly charge, but they don't do that.

I've been unsuccessfully attempting to renew my subs and MiP this week. The server times out or sends bad gateway messages. The whole back end of the payment system looks like its 15 years old.
Nobody to call either, online chat (pre-bookable!) only.
