Do RP07's work?

Registered office change for a business at a private address

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who moved house not too long ago. Anyhow, big HMRC letters turning up at their new address, for the old residents company who's registered office is at the home address.

Client concerned bailiffs and the sorts will turn up as those 'big letters' stated £8k was owing to HMRC - we checked the company and they haven't filed accounts and I assume tax returns since 2018.  Tried to stike off but looks like HMRC objected. Affairs generally in a mess.

We filed the RP07 and returned letter to HMRC. Does anyone know how long it takes to process the RP07 or what the next steps are?

Its been over a month with no contact. We have a reference number but i'm not sure what good it is.

How did you know what was stated in the letters? Did you/your client open them?

The client told me. They opened it.

So the client has opened post not addressed to them, sounds like a criminal offence under the Postal Services Act 2000.

Thanks I'm on the phone to the police now. I hope they go over and arrest the criminal.

Hardly ...they are not intending to act to the persons detriment , perfectly reasonable for them to open it

No, we filed one changing address to Companies House default and HMRC letters completely ignored that and kept sending to the old address (our address) for another 18 months or so.

Painful, but I suspected as much

Just give CH a call to follow up, they are helpful with this kind of thing!
My client did an RP07 which didn't get processed as there was an error with the form I think...

Update: it worked (sort of). Took about 2 months but i think the initial prompt that went from companies House encouraged the director to change the address, as we received an email stating 'sorry we cannot change the address as it has been changed already', either that or a coincidence.

thanks for the replies
