I used to purchase the St James Place Tax Guide each year. They no longer produce it. I know all of the information is available on the net but I like to have a book for reference. Any recommendations appreciated. Many thanks

I'd recommend this tax guide by Bloomsbury professional: https://www.bloomsburyprofessional.com/uk/the-bloomsbury-professional-ta...
It comes in ppaerback or pdf formats.
You could just read The Guardian. They have some very insightful pieces on tax. Ditto The Times, The Independent and The Telegraph.
Oops, forgot to mention The Daily Mail.
Given buying all the Tolley's annuals gets somewhat expensive, and I was not keen on my first set of Tottel, I gave Tiley and Collision a chance. I used Tiley's Revenue Law in the dark ages (82-83) and at the time liked it.
Tiley & Collision is okay but does not have that many model calculations, so I suspect it depend what sort of publication you want. It is also more expensive.
An ICPA sub might be worthwhile, gives some CPD, good online library of Bloomsbury publications ,with easy cut and paste when writing to clients, plus basic PI insurance included/other bits and pieces.
I go to HMRC for historic stuff but for guides, ie "how to save XXX tax this year" type stuff www.taxcafe.co.uk do excellent and cheap guides and on buying their Pension Magic one this morning (£27) I got their "How to save tax 2017/18" one thrown in free.
Have you looked at:

Edit - sorry, I realise now it was 16/17 you wanted.
