Does anyone use a third party direct debit originator?

Does anyone use a third party direct debit...

Didn't find your answer?

As a new practice we're struggling to get our bank to allow us to become a direct debit originator. Does anyone use a third party originator and if so would you recommend them?

Yes

We use SmartDebit.

I spoke to around 8-10 different providers when I first went down the DD route. The guys at SmartDebit seemed to be the most knowledgeable and genuine, rather than the standard sales staff I spoke to at other providers.

Very good service. Very usable interface.

Make sure you agree on a flexible monthly maximum collection amount per client. Ours was a little restrictive at first but has since been increased. Remember you will often have to double-up or triple-up if a clients DD bounces for whatever reason. We also use it to collect one-off fees as well as monthly recurring amounts so need a reasonably high limit.

Gocardless

Been using Gocardless for a while now, since FreeAgent made it part of their facility and note that Xero have now also taken it on.

Simple to setup & use for clients and us and charges = 1% of tranaction sum but with a max of £2.

Also a nice bunch of people (but so young......isn't everyone these days!)

... agreed, and it's thanks to you that I use it - it's brilliant!

Fastpayltd

We use fastpayltd.  Wouldn't rave about them, but then we haven't had any major issues either.

Definitely glad we're able to accept DDs.  Makes life so much easier when you've got a larger number of low value invoices (with monthly billing).
