Does the EPS want CIS net of deducted?

What to put on the EPS for CIS

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

Please could somebody let me know if the figure to put on the EPS is ths gross CIS suffered in the year to date - or the net of CIS suffered and deducted from subbies.  My client cannot get gross status yet and doesnt have any PAYE from payroll to offset.  I believe I need to enter the NET figure in and this seems most logical but really cannot find the answer.  Thank you in advance

Is your client both a contractor and sub-contractor?

CIS suffered goes on the monthly EPS and the CIS deducted goes on the monthly CIS returns
You can only offset if a Ltd Co

As my client is a limited company do I therefore put the net figure on the EPS?

No, you put the total amount suffered. The two should be treated as separate issues.

Why do you think Net is more logical ?

There's something wrong with your reasoning.

I can understand the thought process behind it.

CIS withheld less CIS suffered and report the difference. If I didn't know about CIS then I would probably hazard the same.

Thanks. I have only ever reported suffered in the past but recent research suggested it should be net. It wasn't definitive research hence my question.

Time to change your research material.

Tax you deduct goes on the CIS returns.

Tax deducted from your sales goes on the EPS.

Easy enough to reassure yourself with a dummy run on the payroll software.

I've said it before but it's worth knowing what the answer is before you look at the software's answer.
