Does the invoice have to be in Euros or Sterling ?

catering services provided by a UK company to a UK based client, but in France

Didn't find your answer?

A client has been asked to provide catering services to a UK based customer but for an event in France.

Does the invoice have to be in Euros or can it be in Sterling ?

Very funny.

Notice 700, para 16.4 explains the answer.
Strippy napkins, methinks.

I know it seems a basic question to many of you, but it's the first time I've come across this. As it's catering services, the place of supply is France not the UK, but the customer is a UK customer. As the place of supply is in France, TVA is applicable rather than VAT. Hence the question. And no, the para 16.4 does not answer the question.

Perhaps your question would be better addressed to members of comptabilitéweb.fr

You won't understand how disappointed I am that comptabilitéweb.fr is not a real thing. I searched and everything.............

Surely it depends on what it says in the contract. I would go for sterling to avoid forex.

If it were me I would need paid beforehand in gold before they sent their guests homeward tae think again.

Place of supply is tricky, if you ask Rob it was in Scotland but if you ask Ted it took place in England.

The only thing they both agreed upon was that the invoice ought to be for £13.14

@OP you can invoice in whatever currency you wish. French TVA will have a rule somewhere about what exchange rates to use etc to convert from GBP to EUR.

The currency does not determine the VAT status of the transaction - and you have already established it is taxable in France.
