does work outside EU count for VAT registration

not VAT registered but getting close to registration threshold

Didn't find your answer?

I run a part time consultancy business in Uk and turnover is below registration threshold so not VAT registered

Have been offered some work in Australia but am trying to find out

a. would any advisory work done for an Austrailian business (either from UK or possibly a visit) count as turnover for UK VAT registration threshold purposes

b. would I need to charge VAT to Australian business if registered

Many thanks

What are Australian "vat equivalent" registration rules might be the question I would be asking if performing the work in Australia.

The other thing to consider is what you consult about, for instance property related services may have special rules.

The key is understanding the place of supply rules when considering threshold re UK registration, if in doubt pay an accountant to advise re your particular, detailed, circumstances.

I thought a business to business transaction with a non EU country was exempt from VAT and so outside of the scope of VAT and not counted in the Turnover used to calculate whether you reach the threshold.
