Client company has been asked to give a £500 donation towards a fundraising event in support of a local child who is battling cancer.
As I understand it this fundraising is not being done through a registered charity, so does this effect the tax deductibility of the donation ?

Sadly it is not a qualifying donation, see paras 3.11 to 3.13 https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/charities-detailed-guidance-n...
No deduction under the Gift Aid rules but possibly under the “small and local” rule. (Although the Concession has been removed, HMRC continue - in my experience - to apply it.)
