Anyone having trouble submitting tax returns today ?

I've been waiting for acknowledgement of a Self Assessment return for over an hour now.  I'd usually consider 30 seconds to be far too long.

Using Taxfiler, by the way.

Not sure about self assessment but was very slow around 8.30 when I was doing some payroll submissions so wouldn't be surprised if it's fallen over. Not fit for purpose.........

The submission service is temporarily unavailable. Trying to submit amended return using HMRC agent account. I am running out of expletives to describe this pile of poo.

Still down at 5.30 with no explanation other than "experiencing technical difficulties" and unable to file Vat returns or obtain confirmation of CT filing.

Still down at 12.45 Saturday. The deadline's on a Sunday this month - is anyone working weekends at HMRC ?

We only need to submit nine numbers for a VAT return at the moment and the website's broken.

How much better will it be under MTD, when we've got thousands of businesses submitting thousands of transactions in the last week of the month ?

Of course, it'll be everyone's fault but HMRC - "you could've uploaded earlier" rather than "We could have built a better quality system".

Generic reply, but the more complaints they get - you never know, if we all pray to the big tax pixie in the sky -
maybe, just maybe, someone up there may realise that MTD is a huge step too far until certain basic groundwork is done. Groundwork such as HMRC having a chuffing system that works.

Glad I do virtually no tax returns these days is all I can say! Just imagine if HMRC were a commercial operation....well they'd have gone bust a long time ago.

Can access my agents account (at last). Not tried filing returns.

Seems HMRC have acknowledged the problem too:
