Downloading bulk data from HSBC bank

Client says can't be done

Client says can only download data in months at a time from his HSBC biz bank account. As I need a year and a half worth of data, this is adding on a large amount of extra time for me to merge all the reports together, particularly as some of them are missing. He says there isn't a bulk download option. As every other business bank account I've looked at has this ability, can you please tell me where he should look on in his account for this option so I can pass on the information to him?

I think that he's right - I've never found any way to do it. The downloads are for one monthly statement at a time, but if there are lots of transactions there might need to be two or more each month.

i think your client might be right. i always had my doubts about client not being able to download csv from hsbc for xero import but one occasion he logged in at our office and after few minutes i gave up.
Later i have checked hsbc website and .csv was not listed as one of the formats.

Thank you both. I googled this late last night and found some comments about problems downloading all the data for each month as ketteringuk has indicated. There was a helpful post about how to get everything for a period included, which is where my client is going wrong.
I will apologise to him for insisting there must be an option. How HSBC can get away with this is a mystery to me.

If your bookkeeping supports Auto Entry try that if you can get hold of the PDF copies.

Limits are not uncommon: Lloyds can only dl up to 150 transactions at a time.

Perhaps they are trying to manage load or reduce risk if the account is hacked etc, who knows...

The reason I wanted csv files for the past year was that client is on Xero and told me actual bank balance different. (Not the first time this has happened). So I need to import the rows that were missed, which appears to be on several occasions. Again I wonder about HSBC, as this rarely happens to other non HSBC clients.

I have noticed this a couple of times recently - HSBC and Santander, where the last two or three lines of the statement were missing from the download as well as on the .pdf copies.
What a time waster that was

I get that with a credit card download I do. Last couple of transactions always missing.

We are on the beta version of their new online banking service. I can confirm that you can download a csv file for more than one month, however it is restricted to the last 12 months only.

If you want older than that then you can download old statements as a csv file, but one statement at a time.

That's very good news. 12 months is good enough for me.
