Dreaded Taxfiler migration email

Dreaded Taxfiler migration email

Didn't find your answer?

I've had the dreaded Taxfiler to Iris Elements migration email.

Can anyone with recent migration experiance provide any tips or confirm that it goes smoothly?

We migrated in June last year, one of the first. At that time the migration went smoothly and we didn't lose any data (as far as I know, if we did lose data then we haven't noticed so probably didn't need it).

There were a few problems of Sole Trader/Individual records not syncing correctly and the nature of business not making it's way to the tax return. Since then, we've slowly noticed we don't have to fix these problems anymore and everything works as we'd like it to.

We were handheld as they were doing some beta testing when they migrated us so it was easy to make a fuss if something didn't work how I wanted it to. If you can, I'd milk the support for handholding so you'll have the direct contact details of someone you can grab the attention of if something goes wrong.

If I remember correctly they're sending the migration prompts when your contract is up for renewal so if you aren't due to renew until later this year you may not have received one yet. I think they also paused over December/January so may be playing catch up.

I didnt wait for it as I was a little scared of being pushed into something but also it was the kick I needed to make the jump to TaxCalc

How are you finding TaxCalc? I'm expecting my email any day, and TaxCalc seems like a possible alternative.

Did you go all-in, or only the tax packages, which I'm considering as I already have VT (although I have been looking for a practice management app for a bit).

It seems 150 tax returns, a handful of partnerships, a trust and 50 companies makes me some sort of multi partner practice to a lot of the vendors, so unlimited licences appeal.

I'd recommend you go for tax & accounts production.

Keep VT though for book-keeping.

Yes I went all in, you can trial it for 14 days which I did and although I'm not as quick in TC as TF, it's a more professional product (imo), for instance I didn't like accounts production in TF as I thought it was too basic.

Although the PM module may not be up there with the best of them it's good for me and managing a small team.

It feels like the next step up.

Use VT Accounts alongside Taxcalc, it's far better, e.g. you can see previous year and current year TB alongside each other

We are still on a monthly rolling contract with Taxfiler, however have already switched to TaxCalc last Spring.

Kept running both side by side for the last 9 months - Taxfiler's single licence doesn't cost an arm and a leg, so preferred to have it just in case.

Overall, TaxCalc covers all our needs.

Just spoken with someone via Taxfiler chat.

I am invoiced and pay monthly and have been a user since the early days.

They said I could stick with Taxfiler as it is and that this will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future.

They said I could migrate in the future by using the link in the migration email even if this was a year or so down the line.

Hopefully, this is the case and accurate.........

Thanks for sharing this. I got the dreaded email yesterday and it didn't offer any alternative.

Did they say to just ignore the email and you'll continue to be billed as normal? Do I have to contact them to say I want to stay?

The "unpublished" option to continue using Taxfiler appeals to me.

Caractacus, why not reply to the email and exercise the " option".

Please kindly share with us the outcome.

Thank you.

Sadly, I'm not sure that the information provided by Taxfiler chat was accurate.

I have contacted Taxfiler support to confirm the position.

I'm also surprised somebody from TaxFiler said that they could continue using TaxFiler. Perhaps it's different for monthly subscriptions as this was in the article I referred to earlier:

Can I renew my existing Taxfiler licence?

“Our customers are contacted by email and sent a message in the app 30 days before renewal. This explains how to upgrade to IRIS Elements as we are not renewing Taxfiler licences.”

You've been misinformed. There's no way they'll continue to develop Taxfiler

Reply from Taxfiler support:

I have looked into this, you would need to migrate to IRIS Elements by the end of the 30 days.
We would advise to wait to close to the time of the end of the 30 days to avoid being billed for both Taxfiler and Elements at the same time.

I emailed them as well, their reply:

Unfortunately it would not be possible to remain on Taxfiler.
However if you do get any issues please let us know and we can call and arrange a remote session to help with the issues.

If I remember correctly, before I migrated to Iris Elements, which I must say went without any problem nor have I had any since, I was told that I can continue to use Taxfiler but I would not be able to submit any tax returns or Company accounts to CH, which made staying pretty pointless.

Am just about to migrate. Are you still able to login to Taxfiler and view your clients? This would be handy for the 'inactive' ex-clients who I don't want to move over to IRIS but I do still want access to in case I need to (e.g. for Prof Clearance stuff). Also, is it true that items in the 'Notes' tab do not migrate? Thanks.
