Duplicate RTI figures

Duplicate RTI figures

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem we have on a new client -

We took over the client in Month 4 of the 2013/14 tax year with the old accountants completing Months 1,2 and 3. We have now found that the figures for the first three months of the year have been double counted at the Revenues end, caused by the old accountants and our own RTI submissions. Would anyone know the easiest / quickest way to get the figures corrected?

The Revenues phone lines are so busy its a waste of time trying to call them, getting passed around all over the place so I wondered if anyone could give me some help!

Thanks

Simon

Call HMRC

HMRC need to fix it, realistically. Their term for the problem is 'duplicate employments.'

The method you could use for fixing it is error prone and relies on information you may not be able to get. Additionally, if you make a mistake, you'll make an extra (3rd) set of employments.

In future, make sure you get the RTI payroll IDs from the previous accountant when you take over a payroll. That applies even when you take over on 6th April, even if that avoids the liabilities problem.

Hi

Thanks for the reply - As the tax year has gone on you realise how these things can happen and now how to avoid them but I wasn't aware at the time.

Is it the Employers Helpline I need to call or is it just a letter which I need to send in would you think. Just keen to try to get it sorted asap.

Thanks again

This is what I am concerned about too

I am concerned that my 2 new payrolls in 2013/14 will be duplicated.

I was so concerned with 1 that I actually wrote and sent paper copies of the RTI, however, of course I have heard nothing.

Hopefully, if there is anything wrong they will write sooner rather than later.  I feel blind using my agent login.
