Email address to use as sole practitioner

Which email address to use?

Didn't find your answer?

Dear Members,

I need some suggesstion about the use of email address. I have just started working as sole practitioner after getting my PC. As I am not practising through Limited company, I need some suggestion about the email address I can use which looks professional.

I believe using your name email address of GMAIL, HOTMAIL, etc may not look very professional.

E.g. my name is John Smith. What could be a suitable email address which will look professional and is not generic like GMAIL etc.

Kind Regards

Well normally you link it to the domain name of your website.

NB dont post anon as many people wont respond to your post, just use a pseudonym rather than your real name.

Thanks for the comment. Point noted about anonymous.

Can you guide about website. As I am working under my own name. What domain can I keep ? I haven't kept any trading name. I am just working under my own name and have issued engagement letters and business cards etc under my own name.

You could set up a website using your own name adding the word accountant, city name etc. eg

jbloggsaccountantlondon.co,uk

There is an article here on how to set up a website as a sole trader.

Anything you like.

I have a domain that is not my company name more a tag line re what what my company offers and where. I also have a second domain (not in use yet) to possibly market under if I decide to offer a more stack it high sell it cheap compliance shop re MTD Vat (though I suspect I will not embrace MTD/VAT/Compliancein which case I will likely sell it)

You are fairly free to trade under anything you like. (subject to others in similar activity not already using said name)

google the domain name sellers and discuss with them

you do not have to have a webiste, but the @domain-name-bought can be used as suffix for your email

the domain name seller will host your email traffic [ you could have multiple prefixes to your @domain-name-bought ie accounts@ you @ marketing@ etc

when ready for website that could be added later..
