Employers Helpline and FPS Reporting Information - ANNOYED!

Employers Helpline and FPS Reporting -ANNOYED

Didn't find your answer?

Need to let off Steam!

I have a client who had an employee without an NI number - not received any notification of one, but hadn't realised it was still blank.  Upon going on maternity leave (MATB1 certificate received), applied for an advance on maternity pay and entered NI number from employee.  Received a letter  stating: I am unable to accept this claim, as we do not have a record of this employee under your client's PAYE scheme.

So although there will be a delay whilst I have to gather (her first ever payslip with her employer from 2014, P60's and most recent payslip and the MATB1 original form), I phoned the employers helpline to complain about her not showing up on their records.

All I wanted them to do, was to open an FPS report and see the list of employees' names and deductions being made, so I could prove to them that they have been receiving the information about her all along.  I was told, they DON'T have access to that level of information, and can only look up the amount due for that period.  I was put through to a technician who confirmed the same - no luck.

The letter has a fax number only, so you can't even speak to the department directly (which is the Debt Management Banking Dpt).

We are spending more time than ever doing their work, submitting these annoying reports, and I just wondered today, what is the point, if they can't look at specifics of the infomation we are submitting, when they are queriying the information they are receiving!  It is pathetic.

Enough Said!

You're lucky. I had a couple of overseas lads to deal with. they steadfastly refused to go to the JoblessCentre and get an NI number.

In a similar veign, Recently, a client's staff member has received a tax summery & surprise repayment of tax.

His employmers are listed, but no sign of my client - his main employer for the year.

He called HMRC - told to speak to emplyer.

Employer contacts us, with copy of his letter etc etc and is clearly windering if we're doing our job.

We check all info & our submissions for the kast year & a half before speaking to HMRC. BRICK WALL. He isn't our client, they can't confirm anything, tell us to tell the emplyer to tell the staff member to call HMRC!!!!!!

Just another typical FARCE of a situation that involves HMRC.

It beggers belief that this country can function at all, that companies can make a profit & have tax to pay, when HMRC waste so much of their time & budgets!

Send them a letter (second class), sit back, your job's done.

If they don't want to act on it, fine. Not your problem.

If they ring you or write to you, tell them you can't give them any information unless they get one of your authority forms signed by the taxpayer. Oh - and you'll need a second one signed by the employer. Data Protection.
