Enforced upgrades to Sage software

Will Sage software now be MTD ready?

Didn't find your answer?

I've noticed a few of the comments recently on here, and received some from clients recently, about Sage contacting their customers to strong-arm them into an upgrade to ensure they can continue to file VAT returns from next month. This is because HMRC are updating the gateway in anticipation of MTD and Sage are refusing, for whatever reasons, to provide a patch, or similar, to existing software still within the normal support framework to adapt to the changes.

My default position for clients using Sage, for almost the last 10 years, has been to adopt the cloud although for some clients this hasn't been possible until more recently. However, my key question is, for those clients who want to remain using Sage will this upgrade see them through to MTD or should they expect Sage to come knocking again in 12 months or so when the first MTD VAT return needs filing? I realise things are expected to change again in 2020 for MTD which I envisage would require further upgrades.

Facts, comments and hearsay gleefully welcomed although I'm not particularly interested in the wider will it won't it debate on MTD or Sage's efficacy in all this.

Just key it into HMRC's portal.

It takes what, 60 seconds * 4 returns = less than 5 minutes to take you to this time next year when we might know if its actually going to happen or not.

SAGE will use any excuse to stitch you up.

That's what some of my clients are intending to do - revert to manual. Mind you the portal was still working after the alleged changeover date. Does anybody know if it has now ceased to be?

Another has been looking at the cloud but may decide to run with Sage 50C anyway.

Portal is working until the end of March according to HMRC press release.

My issue with reverting to manual is that it can be subject to error and just why?

why are you surprised by Sage's actions?

I'm not at all surprised and it's one of the reasons I don't bother with desktop, annual licenced, software wherever possible.

Here's the weakness of the current position.

You can't see through the fog caused by HMRC's delays.
