I have been asked to show a sole trader how to input his own tax return. The business is very small and loss making and this may be the only time the client has to submit a tax return. I use ACCA engagement letters which are quite long, especially the terms & conditions. Can anyone recommend a short and to the point engagement letter that deals with a hopefully very short and once off meeting?

I use the standard ACCA 2 page Letter along with 4 pages of T&C. It goes out with a GDPR form, a HMRC liability letter, 64-8's and a welcome letter and an invoice. I can't do less and still be comfortable I'm compliant.
Thanks for the speedy response. Which standard ACCA letter and t&c's are you using? The standard letter I've modified is 4 pages and the t&c's are 12!
As Gillian points out "small jobs" have much the same take on costs as bigger ones.
I must admit to being mystified as to how this engagement can ever end positively for you unless this is a sales pitch for something worthwhile.
Id be more inclined to point them towards a book on how to fill in your own tax return.
It could well be worth it. A couple of hours spent now may lead to a recommendation to a larger prospective client later.
I would not even entertain this request no matter who the client is or whatever the prospect.
Either we do the Tax Return or the client does the Tax Return, full stop.
