EORI

Will they need an Economic Operation Registration Identification (EORI) number issued by the UK?

Didn't find your answer?

I am working as a bookkeeper for a client (not VAT Registered) who import goods from EU countries.  The goods are VAT chargeable if sold in EU and not VAT chargeable if sold in UK. Will they need an Economic Operation Registration Identification (EORI) number issued by the UK? Or any  other registration and submition?

Thanks

Who knows ?

I'm guessing yes but it depends on any deal we may or may not have on 1st November or some other date.

Best to make sure they get one to be safe. I thought the government were just issuing them to everyone anyway.

I thought they were mass issuing to vat registered entities at present but could easily be mistaken.

No shame in that. The Government doesn't know what it's doing so why should you ?

Everybody needs EORI who trades with EU.
P.S. Also, you do not import from EU, currently it is called an acquisition.

That is not strictly correct. An EORI number is, generally, required by any business established in the EU that is responsible for moving goods into or out of the EU. Depending on the exact arrangements it is also possible that some non-EU businesses are required to hold an EORI. It does beg the question, though, which I think has already been raised elsewhere, as to why an EORI number will automatically be required if the UK crashes out of the EU at the end of October.
