Erroneous Post Graduate Loan Stop Notices

Erroneous Post Graduate Loan Stop Notices

Didn't find your answer?

Received one of these at the weekend for an employee who we have not been deducting PG loan payments but have been deducting Student Loan payment.  Just rang the HMRC helpline and the advisor said I was the third call she had had this morning saying the same thing and told me to ring the SL helpline.  So it looks like HMRC have messed up somehow.

ETA:

I just rang the number for the SLC that HMRC gave me (0300 1000611) but they are not accepting calls due to Covid.

I think I will just wait and hopefully HMRC will send a correction notice.

yep, me too...
have been taking SL1 & SL2 for various employees.
have received generic notices to stop taking postgraduate loan payments and to also refund all payments taken since April !!!
just wondering what software others are using, we use moneysoft, is it just this one or other as well. just out of interest.

Moneysoft here too - I contacted their support wondering if it was their latest update this morning. Apparently, not the only one.

The reply came back (within 15 minutes*) - "It would appear that something gone wrong at HMRCs end and, so I think you can safely ignore those messages."

* what fantastic service that was :-)

Can you clarify? I have the 18/06/2020 version and get the 'You already have the latest version of the program.' message if I try to download another. What is your program date?

It's not a MoneySoft issue.

I don't auto download notices straight into MoneySoft, preferring the paper option. I have eight notices over 4 employers in the PAYE - Generic notifications section of my PAYE online account.

All 'Postgraduate Loan non borrower Prompt 1'. Don't think that any of them actually have a Postgraduate Loan.

Thanks to all for posting, saves the hassle of trying to contact HMRC / SLC to find out what's happening.

just wondering if its only happening with moneysoft - maybe somethings changed with the way its submitted via RTI?
perhaps we'll find out if other software users are getting the same notices.

I got one of these too. It came through as a Generic notification rather than a stop notice.

The employee is our only one on a plan 1 student loan. June deduction was identical to April & May.

We use BrightPay.

Yes, we use moneysoft and got the same HMRC alert notice with 3 employees listed for post-grad loans. Check MSP and all correctly set up as SL, not PGL. Must be an HMRC glitch. Also told to repay contributions! What a mess.

We use Sage and have also received a Post Graduate Loan non borrower Prompt 1 for an employee that has a standard SL Plan Type 1 - was told that these have been sent in error and we should disregard the notice.

HMRC have just confirmed to us (Moneysoft) that these messages were sent out in error (below)

"We are aware some employers have incorrectly received a Generic Notice Service (GNS) message between 26/06/2020 and 29/06/2020 to advise them to stop Postgraduate loan deductions.

Please disregard this Generic notice prompt and continue to take deductions under the relevant plan / loan type as instructed by the start notice (SL1 / PGL1).

HMRC have now removed this GNS message so that it cannot be viewed on the customer’s online portal or downloaded via 3rd party software. Unfortunately, the initial emails advising that there is a GNS message cannot be recalled.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

We had 2 general notices saying we had taken PG Loan amounts from 2 employees we shouldn't have done, BUT we hadn't - we had taken their usual standard student loan payments.

Something must have gone wrong at HMRC - its not a payroll software thing as I checked on our HMRC portal and the notices were definitely on there.
