Excel: data connections have been disabled

Why...?

Didn't find your answer?

Hi

I have an Excel workbook that works fine, but when i make a copy of it (into another file and adjust the worksheet name) I get the "Data connections have been disabled" bar appear.

The workbook is not linked to any other workbooks, I'm not changing anything in the file type, it doesn't do it to the original, it doesn't seem to make a difference if I make a copy and adjust the name or open the original and "Save as" and this is before I've actually done anything with the work book. So why the **** does it do this?

Thanks in advance...

How have you copied it? My guess is that you have created links to the source workbook. These may not be obvious if the source book is still open.

Close the workbook that you have copied from and go into the Data tab. If Edit Links is not greyed out, have a look at what links there are.

Hi

I tried copying the original file and pasting it into another folder, there are no links to any other workbooks and "Edit Links" was the first thing I checked.

Thanks

What happens if you enable the connection and then save the file? Does it still come up with the same message when you next open it?
