Extra holiday for non-smokers?

Are there any other companies doing this?

Didn't find your answer?

The BBC covered this article about a recruitment company in Swindon giving its non-smoking employees four extra days of holiday each year.

It's not clear why the company doesn't just include smoking breaks within the time allowed for employee lunch breaks. It is also curious that the managing director, who introduced the new policy, is actually a smoker.

Has anyone heard of other companies bringing in policies like this one? Who considers it discrimination against smokers?

"It's not clear why the company doesn't just include smoking breaks within the time allowed for employee lunch breaks."

It's because smokers need to have a fag every hour and it takes them 15 minutes to go outside and smoke it. Bone idle.

Not cigar smokers (decent cigars) or pipe smokers -right now I either smoke a pipe or cigars, I do not smoke during the working day, my first smoke will be about 7.300 pm and these days not even that as I am currently getting over flu so not smoking at all.

I think we need some appropriate banding and reliefs re this proposal to avoid discriminating against those smokers who do not take extra breaks.

I'm thinking of coming off Aweb - not for the nonsense reason JDBen gave, but because I reckon I could give myself another 2 weeks off each year with the time saved!

To make this fair they must also act against those who drink more than say 2 cups of coffee a day because of the time they waste making it, drinking it, and running to the toilet. Also against those who gossip, ban all social media which would mean confiscating everyone's 'phone whilst at work, ban anyone drinking during the week in case of hangovers the next day, anyone overweight because it takes them far longer to climb the stairs, and ban anyone taking time off just because their child is sick or their grandmother has died. It's a medical fact that eating at lunch makes people more sluggish in the afternoons, so maybe ban eating at lunch time too?
This is just the latest in an ever growing list of companies who seem to think that employees are actually slaves who are owned by the company.

I didn't realise these folk were unpaid. In that case, yes, truly ludicrous.

Hmm. A newly joined member with what appears to be a very thin skin. Add to that the outlandish claims of slavery in his post.

Is that you Davie boy? Haven't you got anything better to do than keep making up new personas for AWeb.

Having read Aweb for many years on and off I am aware of the way that various contributors have been bullied by a small group of members. Now it appears that
a) Because I've only recently registered
b) Because my opinions, according to you, are similar to those of others you have previously bullied.
I therefore must, according to your so called logic, I must be that person.
I pity anyone unlucky enough to be one of your clients.

Ah, the unsubstantiated accusations of bullying. Well, that's me convinced that you're not who I thought.

So you've been around for years and your first contribution is about smokers ?

Looks like I’m not needed here ;-)

(I just knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist a bit of a rambling rant on this thread)

I think he’s about to be stubbed out.

Nah - I’ve spotted him within an hour before.

I see that the account is now blocked but I do wonder why the content has not been deleted - it makes blocking the account rather pointless. He would effectively be allowed to continue posting albeit under a series of different usernames as each is blocked in turn.

Is anyone running a sweep on how long it will take for the next one to appear?
