failure to deregister for VAT

failure to deregister for VAT

A company which was VAT registered has been struck off after filing a 652 has just been sent a VAT return for completion. Nobody seems to know what happened to the last three VAT returns and nobody seems to know if they applied to deregister and there is no 64(8) in place for VAT.

As far as we know there is no VAT liability as there were no sales or income.

What happens next?

Send it back
and tell them the company has been stuck off - they had their chance when it was gazetted, or are hmrc objecting to the 652a as no VAT returns have been submitted?
