Farewell AccountingWEB-bers

Signing off for the final time - thanks for the accountancy-based memories

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all. Please forgive the personal update, but today I’ll be signing out as editor of AccountingWEB for the final time.

I started on the site in the simpler days of 2015, when Making Tax Digital just was a gleam in George Osborne’s eye and Brexit was something you had with toast and marmalade.

I’ve had plenty of help from AccountingWEB members along the way to distinguish my EBITDAs from my IR35s, so I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone on here for posting, responding, commenting, emailing, calling, coming to find me at events and generally engaging with the site.

Your enthusiasm for all things accountancy has genuinely meant a lot to me. I’ve met some fantastic people doing incredible things with their work who are bit by bit doing their best to consign the tired old myth of the boring accountant to the history books.

Some 22 years after its launch, AccountingWEB continues to go from strength to strength and with the big event in December and plenty of things to come in 2020 I’m certain it will continue to do so.

I won’t be too far from the world of accountancy, so no doubt our paths will cross again soon.

All the best,

Tom

First PNL, now Tom. Why can't it be Bob Loblaw, TD, WP etc.?

Why can't it be you? Go on, Justin. Give your Ctrl-V keys a break and have a nice little hiatus. You deserve it. If you want someone to continue your legacy in the meantime, I also know how to post links and get angry at people for no reason.

Why can't it be the edit function? (Though this one did make me smile.)

Glad it made you smile TD because it's ruined my entire day. I always thought that Justin and I had the potential to really hit it off.

Wow. Adding me (your good friend) into this post after I've suggested out of the goodness of my heart that you give your fingers a rest and take a nice holiday. Cowardly and despicable.

Well you pass the getting angry test.

What about posting a link? It has to be to a 152+ page court case or a tax planning manual that might, if you scroll through 80 pages, have something to do with the tax in question (though maybe not the issue in point).

I can't talk for the others, Tom, but the thumbs-up from me is recognition of past service, not gladness at your leaving.

I suspect the others are the same :-)

Good luck, Tom. Always been envious of your beautiful beard. I hope it (and you) continue to flourish in the future.

but Tom, you only just got here! Or at least it seems to some of us who have been hanging around here for far too long (I think it might be nearly 18 years now I have been hanging about!)

Sorry to see you are off so soon, but hopefully you are going out with your head held high to better things, and your new role does not involve having to putting tax professionals on the naughty step for being rude to each other on line...

Farewell and best wishes from me, too Tom. I know that you're getting the emotional farewell speech at HQ as I type, so I won't pile on the pathos too much.

Just wanted to say it's been a pleasure to work with you for the past four years and how much I appreciated how you breathed new life first into our business coverage, and later as site editor.

At least we'll have 50+ podcast episodes to remember your dulcet voice and outrageous puns: https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/more/podcasts

I'm sure we'll meet again and I look forward to swapping Aweb war stories with you when we do.

As a farewell gesture, why don't we all be nice to each other this evening to honour one of the nicest people to have worked on AccountingWEB?

Tom

Sorry to hear about your departure and best wishes with your future endeavours

There was a young fellow called Tom
He policed Accounting Web with aplomb
When posters got mad
We were often quite glad
That the sheriff in town was this homme
