Fees for bookkeeping and payroll

how much to charge ?

Didn't find your answer?

Sage used. Bookkeeping and payroll. Company t/o under £150k. Roughly 10 staff. Previous bookkeeper has left. We do the year end accts already.

How much would people charge for monthly bookkeeping and quarterly vat and monthly payroll [some might be weekly] , and then the MTD too eventually.

£150k turnover & 10 staff?
How many weekly / monthly paid?
What sort of business?
How many sales transactions?
How many purchase transactions?

Yes apologies I don't have any additional detail at this stage. We have taken on the accounts for this year but last year was done by another firm. They are involved in property damp proofing. Not all 10 staff are full time. I believe some CIS too. I don't know the number of purchase transactions or sales transactions at this stage.

The primary variable is the number of transactions. Without that you’d be advised to operate temporarily on a time basis.

All you you need is your average processing speed along with your targeted hourly rate and Bob’s your uncle.

Which may not be enough given previous bookkeeper has left. Could underpayment be the reason for leaving or if offloaded as incompetent are books riddled with errors and will need a time consuming unpick.

Unless I had clear picture why last bookkeeper was no more I would tend to take what he/she was being paid as very much the low end of the scale and quote accordingly.

Unless you are desperate for work I would avoid this. A 1000 transactions a month,10 staff on t/o under £150K would make it impossible for you to charge a decent fee. They probably have leavers and starters week in and week out, cis, vat: no thanks but good luck if you decide to take it. Agree work for one month before agreeing a fee.
