Festival of Accounting and Bookkeeping attendance?

I'm wondering whether it's worth a trip.

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All,

Apologies in advance if this isn't the sort of question normally asked here, but nevertheless, I've seen that the Festival of Accounting and Bookkeeping (FAB.uk) will be taking place in March at the NEC, Birmingham.

I haven't been before so I was hoping to find out what your experience is with these sorts of conferences/events so I can gauge whether it's worth getting a free ticket and checking the event out.

Considering the exhibitors and speakers that are going, is it worth a go?

I went to one of the ones held at the end of November in Coventry and they are quite good for some of the talks and talking/seeing software. I wouldn't go every year, but I am going to go to the one in March. I think it is a great idea to move it to a March date instead of Nov/Dec! It is a big expo though so mostly trade stands but you will probably leave with lots of advertising socks.

Thanks! We have lots of great speakers to be announced. We have content areas with stages dedicated to AI, bookkeeping and practice strategy but with Any Answers in mind, we have a Any Answers Live area dealing with all the latest compliance and technical discussions. The speakers are as good as you'd expect (I'm working with the AWEB team to recruit them) and we're ensuring this is a place for discussion and debate over being lectured to - just like Any Answers.

I go to festivals that involve camping, unsanitary toilets, deafening music and poor decisions made at 3 in the morning. But I won't go to Birmingham...

I'd definitely recommend going, but then I'm biased. It's the perfect place to put into action your post-self assessment plans, whether that's exploring the new software available, finding out the strategies of other accountants around current hot trends like AI or ways to grow your practice in 2024.

Stay tuned to AccountingWEB over the coming weeks as we reveal more on the content agenda for the exhibition, more on the vendors, and speakers. Last week we announced that Dan Neidle will be speaking at the event - that in itself is worth the trip.

For others interested, you can get your free ticket here: https://www.fab.uk/

I concur- I still have my Scimitar SS1600 (87 so not yet classic old) in a few pieces but it is now in a shipping container as I am losing my garage space .

Once I retire will buy a house with a garage (preferably a double garage) and we will be reunited.

Meantime anyone want to buy my spare 1600 Ford CVH engine, buyer uplifts, it is situated in Edinburgh and is also in bits- comes with a clutch housing and fuel injection pieces- it was a transverse fit and came out of Escort Cabriolet someone was breaking (no idea if works/condition)- as I only paid 99p for it (E Bay) open to any reasonable offer

As we're only a few junctions up the M42, I suppose I'll make the effort and be there.

I did have a look at the speakers and saw names like Tom Herbert and Richard Hattersley... I've never heard of them - can anyone shed some light for me?

In all seriousness I do enjoy the events as I like meeting with our current suppliers and do the rounds of what's new. Worth a trip if you've a day to kill.

Festival! "a day or period of celebration, typically for religious reasons" - dictionary definition.

Me thinks this might be misnamed!! Hardly a celebration!! Maybe worth going though - from my view just to see any technological developments in our industry

"Registration will open in November 2024. In the meantime, sign up to our newsletter here, and we'll let you know when you can get your hands on a ticket."

Ah well, opportunity missed, won't be able to register until 8 months after the event. Presumably the event is most suited to our occasional visitors here who regularly use their time machines to backdate actions & documents.

By the same FAQs author:"FAB is for accountants and bookkeepers of all shapes and sizes"

It's good to know there are no minimum height restrictions. And that fat people are welcome!

Bit late to this having been enjoying the Festival of Self Assessment followed by the Festival of Dealing With All The Stuff That Gor Pushed Back Because Of It. But I can sense the excitement building, not least because ...... /drumroll

Exciting news alert for all accounting and bookkeeping professionals! Get ready because HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is making a special appearance at the Festival of Accounting & Bookkeeping (FAB) on 13-14 March at the NEC, Birmingham. And guess what? They're not just dropping by for a quick visit - HMRC will be with us for both days of FAB, ready to share their expertise and insights.

Guess that means an even longer wait to get through on the phone!
