Our firm (small, two director practise) needs a part-time book keeper to do VAT returns via Sage/excel, payroll and Annual Returns - any members recommend a way of finding a one, i.e. any book keeping websites we can mention our requirements? Based in Liverpool.
Thanks

ICB
If you ring the ICB and mention you are looking for a bookkeeper. If you ask for Amy- June or Tara
0207 398 44 40
They will advertise the job for you and contact the Liverpool branch of bookkeepers.
Bookkeeping
Hi
Are you looking for somebody in house or can the work be out sourced also?
We are a payroll and bookkeeping only firm and could possibly work with you to provide a solution to your bookkeeping and payroll issues.

Experience
I would look for experience rather than qualifications. Do any of your clients employ part time book-keepers that maybe interested in a few hours working for you ? If so at least you would have an idea of the standard of their work.
When interviewing draw up a list of questions to get an idea of their knowledge.
I don't want to be unfair to book-keepers but remember that they are not accountants so don't expect them to be able to do the same job.
ICB
Not to sound like an echo but I would also recommend giving ICB a call. They will be best placed to give you a recommendation in your area.

Best of luck!
Book-keepers forum
I would also echo the above posts about ICB.
As an alternative it might also be worth trying the Book-keepers forum www.book-keepers.org.uk I think they have a find a bookkeeper section on their site. Yes the address is almost identical to the ICB!!
