Flexi-furlough agreement timing

Effective from 1 July but not confirmed in writing until early August

Didn't find your answer?

Following this thread https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/any-answers/jss-and-written-agreements, I checked our position for flexi-furlough and discovered that while my boss informed staff verbally of the flexi-furlough arrangements prior to 1 July 2020 (we brought several staff in part-time from that point onwards), it wasn't put into writing until early August.

Does this sound acceptable? The written confirmation states that the staff were flexi-furloughed from 1 July 2020, and all staff replied by email agreeing to the arrangements. Slightly concerned by the lateness of it all.

Any particular reason you are worrying about it now?

Presumably none of the staff kicked up a fuss at the time?

Are you also doing JSS, and planning to use the same letters?

Just concerned that we've not done things orderly enough. Probably a case of overthinking brought on by CJRS/CJSS fatigue... or perhaps OCD...

I'm aware that it's probably of very little/no consequence. Hardly a reason for HMRC to start clawing back grants.

I don't think it will be a concern. I think the letters were just in case employers tried to claim furlough for people who were working, they were just an extra precaution. As was telling employees that you have claimed furlough for them each time a claim was made, I doubt every employer did that, but the furlough would have appeared on the payslip anyway. So although the letters were mandatory, I doubt they'll be chased up unless HMRC suspect foul play for some other reason
