One for Sift

Didn't find your answer?

An I the only one that gets annoyed that, if a thread runs to more than one page, when you go to the second and subsequent pages all the "New" flags have been removed. As if it's not bad enough that replies are inserted rather than appended, meaning that you have to hunt them down, now you would have to go through every post to find the new ones.

For now, I'm going to simply avoid pages 2 etc. If something gets missed, tough.

This has annoyed me for ages as well. It's at the point where if a thread gets to page 2, I simply ignore it.

Nothing worse than having to scan through all the response you've already read to find what post is new.

It's really great because you go straight to page 2, realise the new post isn't there, flick back to page one and, of course, the flag is no longer there either. Which means you have to check page 1 for flags before you move to page 2. Or not bother.

And if you do find the new post, it's likely someone whinging about something or someone, or defending someone else's right to be rude, and you realise you're back in the chatroom. (Why don't Sift just give us a real chatroom? Seems to be what everyone wants. Leave the forum for the saddos that want actual technical discussion.)

I vote for a saddos forum called "Saddos" on the menu. Or perhaps a closed section of the forum for so called professional discussion limited to accounting and taxc, leaving Any Answers for anyone to ask public questions including about broader topics like import/export, HR and marriage guidance.

If it's an interesting (to me) thread - not like the one where Luke got himself banned for being a... for being the thing he accused someone else of being (oh, the irony) - if it's a thread I want to follow, I've taken to making a mental note of the last post on page 1. If that's changed when I log back in, it means there's been an addition on page 1, I can then search for the flags (find new); else I can scroll to page 2. Find new won't ever work on page 2. You're on your own at that point.

It's rubbish. It exacerbates the problems caused by the (everyone agrees) 5h1te format.

Its crying out for a filter that only shows new posts, or a summary screenn that lists the new posts rather than the most recently replied to threads.

Then there's the whole "Anon" thing .....

John S doesn't care about the anon thing. It's clicks for his overlords' advertising revenue.

That might explain no joining fees and no annual subscription

Half a mind to suggest that business model to IRIS

The Anon thing is easily solved. (Actually, so are many of the issues being discussed in this thread.) The solution is people (en masse) not replying.

Talking of which, I must be due another Aweb sabbatical. See y'all next month.

Sabbatical

A British English word that means Furlough across the pond
Wonder what word they use for UK furlough?

Hello everyone, I have two questions if anyone can please help.

1. Language lessons - I use Lingoda for language lessons, what would be the correct code in Quickbooks to assign those expenses to?
2. Withholding Tax -what is the correct way to account for withholding tax deducted from payment at source. Is raising a credit note sufficient with the line item booked to a control account?
