Free bookkeeping software for apple/mac users

Any suggestions please?

Didn't find your answer?

I recommended VT cashbooks to client, but as he is an Apple user that's no good. He won't be reg for VAT for a year or so, but I want the software to be MTD compliant eventually. I read that Wave is good. Only thing putting me off is whether it will be MTD compliant in the long run.
What are your thoughts?

I believe Wave is Canadian. I'm a bit suspicious of whether foreign companies will keep up with UK requirements.

Capium is free and they also do tax and accounts software - for that reason, they will probably make their bookkeeping software MTD compliant.

Have you considered cloud based softwares such as sage one or quickbooks or xero.....
works well with our clients who have mac OS.

I never recommend free software for business use, for the simple reason that it tends to be worth what you pay for it. If your fees can't cover the £3 - £5 pm cost of high quality software such as QBO for the self employed, then you really need to think about raising your fees. The value that both you and your client will get from using high quality software is worth so much more than the low monthly cost. I pay for the licence myself and give it to the client as part of my monthly fee.

Take a look at Adminsoft Accounts, you might change your mind.

Thank you everyone for all your advice. I've had a look at comments from users on most of the software you mention, and not surprisingly there have been some issues that you would never get with paid software.
I've therefore decided it's not worth the hassle for me, let alone client, and have sent him a cashbook spreadsheet for this year. When his business is properly up and running I'll recommend Xero to him.

I used to do that, but clients are so good at messing up apparently foolproof spreadsheets that now I get the £2/month Xero version and then upgrade for one month per year to allow them to allocate the transactions they have downloaded from the bank. Saves me hours.

Yes, I know what you mean, but this client has brain power, so I don't think I'll have problems later.
What do you mean upgrade for one month? Do you mean you can downgrade thereafter?

Hi. Check out Adminsoft Accounts. It's developed in the UK and is free. It is Windows based, but will run on Apple using Windows emulation.

Being PC based rather than cloud based, you won't have the same security concerns, or be worried they'll suddenly start charging you to access your data.

Try Reckon One, it's not free but very reasonable £3 to get started. Going for 'free' is not worthwhile as you get what you pay for! We are moving clients to Reckon from VT and Capium. Would stay with VT but it's not going to be MTD compliant which is a shame. It's still the best non-cloud system out there.
