From ATT to CTA - Confused

Didn't find your answer?

Hi guys,

I recently began the ATT qualification and have now finished all modules with the exception of the Law CBE.

I have been approved by my company to begin the CTA exams in the November 2020 sitting. However I was informed yesterday by that I cannot apply to be CIOT member without having completed Law CBE and if I was to transfer the membership my ATT qualification would essentially be made redundant.

Would any of you happen to know how I can move from the ATT to doing CTA exams and qualify in both at the end of the stipulated time period please?

Just FYI, I have booked the law exam for later this month but fear it may be pushed forward due to COVID-19. As I understand, I have to register with CIOT 4 months before the November sitting (i.e. end of June) to be able to book the exam.

Appreciate the help!

Presumably it’s to do with the eligibility criteria to be able to enter the CIOT exams. What are they? The place to look is surely the CIOT.

I think the only way around this would be the ATT CTA pathway, but you have already sat too many exams for this. However, if they did let you transfer to this, it would mean you don't have to sit the law exam before sitting the CTA papers .

As some business are restarting at the end of the month, I would think it is likely you would be able to sit the law exam before the end of June though. Otherwise unfortunately you might have to wait to sit the CTA papers by May. Is it worth contacting CIOT and asking if you could sit the papers in November & the only reason you havent sat the law exam is due to the current situation? Maybe they can make an exception?

GOOD LUCK

I am puzzled. You wont be a Ciot member until you have completed the qualification. Once you have completed ATT, you can be an ATT member in the meantime.
Many members of the Ciot retain their ATT membership.
As has been said, the Ciot can advise.

Been a long time since I transferred from ATT to CIOT membership but, from memory, I let my ATT membership lapse once it was transferred across to CIOT.

As cbp99 mentions, CIOT members can later apply to have membership of the CIOT for a one-off fee and ongoing extra subscription.
