Furlough Bonus Claim

Opinion sought on qualification for £1,000 bonus under these circumstances...

Didn't find your answer?

My client, the director of a one-man band limited company, “furloughed himself” between 19 March and 10 May.  Since then he has returned to work and continues to run his business, albeit on a smaller scale, with a salary of £732/month.

This morning he asked me to check whether he will qualify for the £1,000 furlough bonus net February.  He does not, at this stage, envisage furloughing himself again between now and the end of October.

I note that further information on the finer detail of bonus scheme will be announced by the end of July, but in the meantime, do readers have any thoughts on whether a bonus claim under these circumstances would be valid?

Just tell your client to be patient and wait like all the rest of us until the detailed guidance is published. Anything else is just worthless opinion and speculation.

My guess from the wording used so far (furloughed “anytime”) would be yes, but until the detail is released at the end of July, then clarified 1st wk August, then further clarified 2nd & 3rd wks August, it’s impossible to say and he’ll just have to wait like the rest of us.

I vote yes.

On the basis of what Rishi's said so far.

who knows, it would be absolutely nuts to pay your client £1k for something he was going to do anyway.

but the policy IS nuts. So perhaps. If i was designing it, I would only include people who had NOT already returned to work on the date they published the rules.........but maybe that's just me.

it seems more like a "we have just crashed out of the EU-with-no-Deal-Bonus, here look £1,000 pounds" to me than a sincere policy.
