Furloughed Staff being made redundant

CJRS

Didn't find your answer?

interesting question from a client - they have an employee who is currently furloughed, they cant see any chance of them bein able to support the position once lockdown ends, so they want to make them redundant now

what is the position with makign staff redundant whilst furloughed - if the employer able to give notice and claim CJRS funding for the period of notice or does the employee need to be taken off furlough and palaced back on normal payroll to be served their notice period

They need to be taken off furlough and placed back on normal payroll, with PILON at full rate as applicable.

Why can't they serve their full notice on furlough?

My understanding is that furlough does not alter termination/redundancy/notice. Hence notice period cannot be started 'retrospectively' ie backdated to when furlough started; and employee must be paid during whole notice period. If they are furloughed during the notice period, then furlough pay is OK during the notice period.
