If a property qualifies as a FHL, is it necessary to treat it as a FHL?  Or is the qualification as a FHL an election, and thereby if not election is made, it would, by default, be treated as a normal let?

My question would be why would you not want it to qualify as an FHL given that there are specific tax advantages?
