Genuine SAGE email?

SAGE Missing transactions on VAT Return Notice 19-Q | 18 February 2019

Is this a genuine email:

SAGE Missing transactions on VAT Return Notice 19-Q | 18 February 2019

We’ve identified a small issue, but don’t worry we’ve got you and your clients covered.

If you run your VAT Return up to the period ending March 2019, the transactions for 31 March 2019 are not appearing.

To make sure your calculations are correct when submitting your VAT Return, you can download and install an update now or follow a manual workaround.

To find out more or get in touch click here >

Please note: You and your clients need to take action before submitting your returns to HMRC if you have transactions dated 31st March 2019.

If you have any questions please contact your account manager.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Yes it looks genuine - love that they think it is a small issue. Also that their developers don't know how many days there are in March.

If it is correct then there are going to be a lot of wrong VAT returns going in and I wonder how many businesses do their billing in one go at the end of the month.

Hopefully their should not be any wrong returns, from an ex technicians point of view, the software has an automatic update feature that is turned ON by default so this should prompt people to download the update well in advance of the production of the VAT return. You wouldn't disable Payroll's automatic updates or a virus scans so this should not really be any different.

In addition to this. The VAT reconciliation contains a detailed report which should always be reconciled against a series of reports inside Sage to ensure that all transactions have been picked up. This has been the standard procedure in the software since its creation.

My vote is its fake, or a scam to get folk to contact Sage about upgrading to an MTD compatible software paying through thhe nose.

We havent got to the end of March yet, so if it was genuine they would have time to fix it/provide an update in that email.

Easiest way to find out - email a known sage contact or phone them.

Definitely sounds like it's fake, and this is exactly what I was thinking when I read the OP

Where does the link want you to go? Hover over it and check the domain, if it's a sage.co.uk address then it might be legitimate.

Have you been in touch with Sage? I would hope that they could tell you instantly if this email is fake or not.

It is genuine - the link points to an article on ask.sage.co.uk

If everyone assumes its a scam there could be a lot of wrong VAT returns...

Thanks for the update Bitspawn. Not heard that any of my clients have the email and I certainly haven't so unable to see the link in the message on here.

Good to know via Aweb if not via Sage.

This is not fake news but its a fake email. I have deleted it. Why did they not choose April Fool's Day.
There are a lot of bad people in the world.
