I am using a client's government gateway account to add VAT so I can go on to use the account to grant myself access to his VAT and get him on my client list. The issue I have is that when I try to add VAT to his account I get the message: "There's a problem. This information does not exist for submit VAT Returns, or it has already been used to request access to this tax or scheme."
Given that I have already used the same information to successfully submit an authorisation request online (long story but letter not getting through), I can only assume that a government gateway account already exists with this VAT account added (and I wouldn't be surprised if the former accountant set this up rather than using an agent account).
Any advice appreciated.
