Gift of shares to spouse, an subsequent sale

If listed shares are held through a platform, how can they be given to spouse who has CGT losses

Didn't find your answer?

Mr A owns  listed shares pregnant with gains and  held through a platform , Mrs A has CGT losses.  Mr A wants to gift the shares to Mrs A, who would then sell them. What is the simplest paperwork which would convince HMRC that the gift preceded the sale?

Listed company ?

Her name needs to magically appear on the register.

Send in a share transfer form. A deed of gift prepared by a solicitor would be wise.

But the shares are held through a platform. Mr.A's holding is just a book entry in the platform's records. Hence the question.

Ask the platform - they must have come across this before.
