I am a self-employed sole trader.
I need to purchase a new computer, replacing my existing MacBook Air. However, I have an awful lot going on at the moment, with a grave family illness, and I am not confident I will get to do the requisite resesarch to select or purchase the appropriate product in the soon-to-end financial year, which may be attractive.
I am considering purchasing an Apple Store gift card, which can carry value up to £2,000, at the tail end of this financial year, with the thought of redeeming it early in the next.
Is this possible / justifiable / legal? Could the gift card actually be considered an expense in 2020/21, or should it be rather considered as the acquisition of some value asset, which then is disposed out of the business next year?
Thank-you.
