Golf Club and VAT

potential client

Didn't find your answer?

Im seeing a potential client this week who has taken on a golf club. Its a profit making enterprise.  I'm aware that there are some VAT issues for non profit making golf clubs.  Is there anything in particular I should be aware of for a profit making golf club?  Presumably its membership fees, bar sales, equipment sales and green fees which will all be std rated.  Any thoughts?

You can get a round up and various links at http://www.englandgolf.org/page.aspx?sitesectionid=507

I'd say don't take it on unless you know what you're doing with it though. The golf clubs I act for are reasonably expensive and amongst their memberships they have several accountants, solicitors, and other types of people I wouldn't want to make an almighty [***]-up in front of!
