Happy first day of Spring, David!

It's been a long, dark cold winter. February 1st always feels like Spring to me. Time for change and resolutions... like must have my first beer of the year and must update our AML system. I can't decide which to do lunchtime ;)

every single year I breathe a sigh of relief on the 31st Jan, and then the heart starts pounding again on the 1st Feb when I see the list of things I left to do until Feb!

They drag over more and more, don't they just.

VAT returns to finish tomorrow, together with subbies who need verifying and paying. And I'm going to have to have to give up my footstool soon and open up the last minute carrier bag job. Maybe it's time to follow Greedy Sainsburys' lead and start (over)charging for the bag.

For what it's worth, being late filing an SA return does not disqualify our miscreants from making a paymernt arrangement with HMRC. They retain their 60 day window (so until end of March) and (importantly) without prejudice for making a TTP deal with HMRC's collectors. Just thought I'd mention that, as HMRC's various in-date and out-of-date info on that matter is rather coy about airing that facility. I'm advising mine to make any such arrangement b4 the end of Feb, to dodge the 5% uplift.

Good point/suggestion.
It's surprising how many people assume it's filing that triggers the need to make payment (and as you say HMRC don't go out of their way to make things clear - which of course also applies to the poor info 'promoted' re TTP).

I once, when in a new role, was given a practice tax manager as my Secret Santa. Difficult when you don't know someone.

So I had a mug printed with:

"Yeah. Yeah. Speak to me in February"
