Have CIMA now considering ATT

Have CIMA now considering ATT

Didn't find your answer?

I'm looking to boost my CV with an additional qualification and am considering the ATT. I qualified with CIMA in 2003 so some time ago and although did a Msc straight after have done no technical training since. What is the workload like of the ATT compared to CIMA and how hard/easy is it compared with CIMA?

Just different

I completed CIMA 10 years ago, and have worked in industry ever since. Three years ago I decided to top up the CV, and embarked on CTA.

Given that I have never worked in tax, (apart from VAT & PAYE for the company) I was un prepared for how different CTA was from CIMA. Broadly, of course, these are law exams.

CTA is time bound, in that you have to pass all the exams in 3 years.

I have now chosen to do ATT instead, and am enjoying the material. I am using BPP texts only, but they are easy to follow for self study. I passed the first paper with a good score at first attempt, and am taking the next paper later this month.

If I had known how complex CTA was, and paid attention to ATT instead, I would have done ATT first.

I may yet go back to CTA in the future, and would probably not try and study just from books.

good luck with your choices.

Similar
I was in a similar situation a couple of years back. I qualified with the ACCA in 2001 and a couple years ago I fancied boosting my tax knowledge and my CV at the same time.

Went for ATT and it was tricky, without being crazy hard! A good level for an overall tax refresher that was tricky, not too difficult and covered a good chunk of the common tax areas.

I passed ATT a couple years back now and overall quite enjoyed it.

CTA is a whole new ball game, and from what ive heard from past colleagues/friends etc is a huge, huge take on.

CTA is undoubtably a fantasic, highly respected qualification and therfore to get your hands on it is very very tough.

ATT didnt do me any harm, was very very "do-able" and not hugely difficult.

You passed CIMA, IMHO ATT will offer a good refresher/overview without stresing you out.

Go for it.

Craig
