Have HMRC removed Agents' PAYE online access?

Does anyone know how to access clients' HMRC PAYE payment and allocation information online?

Didn't find your answer?

Whilst in the process of reconciling a client's year end PAYE one of my colleagues signed in to HMRC online services to obtain a summary of the client's PAYE payments made and allocated during the year, together with a balance of their PAYE account. However, the website has now changed to a new BETA (definitely not 'BETTER') service and the information being sought was...well....not visible. We tried looking through allsorts of menu options to try to find it but after a long wasted time eventually picked up the phone to the online services helpdesk. They advised that we could no longer access such information and that the only way of retrieiving any figures will in future be to telephone HMRC's employer's helpline to get the information verbally.  Has  anyone else had a similar experience or does anyone know of a way to obtain this informaton online?

Same problem here! It's simply not there as far as I can see. The access page has changed to more like what it used to look like but then that opens up into the 'Fisher Price' one again! I can only hope they are mid way through some sort of online update and we have been caught in the middle of it otherwise the site is going to be totally useless apart from maybe updating your client's reference number! It drives me insane!!!

I've just read the last bit of your post - if we can no longer access the information then we need to stand together and fight this! How the hell are we supposed to reconcile our client's PAYE accounts via the phone speaking to the online services 'helpdesk'!!!!!!!

I have also found that this functionality is missing, which is a massive step backwards as most of the queries I receive from my clients relate to threatening HMRC letters about non-payment when in fact the payment has been made and they haven't allocated it correctly. So frustrating!

Probably the same as we experienced here:-
https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/any-answers/hmrc-portal-rant-0

Give me some time and I'll see what I can do (again!).

Edit: see payrollbecky's post below, log in, open another browser window, then put this in the URL:
https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/agent/epaye/client-list
Click through on the client's name (takes an age!).

For the payments:-
https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/statements/epaye/account-overview/NNN%2FN...
Annual statements:-
https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/statements/epaye/annual-statement/NNN%2FN...
Payments:-
https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/statements/epaye/payments/NNN%2FNNNNNN

replace the NNNs with the client's PAYE reference

Any ideas on how to approach HMRC in order to get some acknowledgement of the problem and perhaps remedial action?

Use the feedback form. If we all do it telling them what an appalling decision it is to remove the only useful information from the PAYE portal for agents, making the service worse than useless, maybe they'll sit up and re-think.

I have just tried and can log in and access PAYE info as normal.

I sincerely hope that they aren't doing away with it!

Same here. Needed to make a client payment today, I looked yesterday and saw that they had a different figure to me, went to double check today before making the payment and the page is not there - nightmare. I've paid what I think is due to be safe, but might now have overpaid

Have been using the beta for a long time.
Just logged in with old account credentials and all the usual breakdowns , back to Jan 2017, are in their usual place and drilling down works fine too

I remember some time ago we asked for payment info from HMRC and they said we can't send it to you..client should know what they've paid. Isn't technology wonderful. What nonsense, Why restrict access.

Hi all,

So I took a leaf out of Wanderer's book to see if I could find a work around to access this and managed to get into the payment and allocations which no longer shows on the account.

If you login and then follow the link below, you should be able to access the figures although I have so far found it to be very slow!

https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/agent/epaye/client-list

Hope this helps!

Brilliant! Thank you Payrollbecky- I feel I can function again - well as far as payroll reconciliations are concerned at least! What the hell are HMRC playing at; if we didn't do our jobs they wouldn't have a tax system so why can't we all work together and assist one another in our respective roles?! Grrrrr!!!

My log in looked like this too until a couple of days ago when it went back to what appeared to be the old green screen (which I thought looked hopeful!) then sadly it opened up into the 'Fisher Price' huge print one again but with very little functionality as most was lost!

Thanks for this. I am not sure what HMRC are playing at. If I log in through my usual way and THEN your link, as you say it works.
I tried logging in with just your link and it says I cannot join the beta as I have over 200 clients.

Thanks for that solution...brilliant...don't know how this was figured out but well done payroll becky!...and its so unbelievable that the information is there and yet can't be accessed through the standard agents' sign in route! It seems HMRC's website is now resembling a Black Hole where data goes in but never comes out!

Many thanks for this. I was already logged as normal but with all the clients missing like everyone else. Opened up a new tab and pasted in your link and it worked. Brilliant! Thanks again. I agree with all the sentiments about HMRC already posted on here - not fit for purpose. Why do they do this to agents? After all we're only trying to assist our clients to get it right.

Hi again all,

Just a quick update - HMRC seem to have fixed whatever the issue was as this is back up on the main login now.

Crisis averted!!!

It’s gone awry again today. It has been working since the day after the last glitch but has all disappeared for us today too. I, however, have been able to get through by using the ‘workaround’ link - thank goodness!!

I thought this yesterday too as it sent me back to the old style page but I've not been able to replicate the error since as mine seems to be functioning again, thought I'd lost the plot!

Works fine for us through the usual channels today too - I wish they would stop messing with things - it's irritating and disconcerting when they do!!
