Have you converted from Iris to Taxcalc

Didn't find your answer?

I am reaching out to accountingweb users to see if your practice has made the transition from Iris to Taxcalc and to see what your thoughts were? We are considering making this change but would welcome comments about the pros/cons of the software and the transition.

Yes.

Taxcalc is ok, not as good as IRIS but it's "good enough". If IRIS cost me, say 25% more than Taxcalc, I would probably pay that premium. However, IRIS was costing me 300% more!

Taxcalc helps with the transition. For £50 they will import the standing client data in (name, address, tel no, UTR, NINO, etc). You have to import the IRIS TB: this is pretty easy and quick once you've sussed out the procedure.

There's no P11D or FAR facility in Taxcalc.

Yes, we did it about 18 months ago. Whilst Iris is a superior product, I personally think it is probably now geared up for larger practices. We are a small practice which doesn't need all the bells and whistles of Iris (350 accounts clients and 500 tax returns) and the cost saving is substantial..we now pay 25% of what we used to pay Iris.

Be prepared for the extra work of inputting PY TB's and setting up info for tax returns, but in the end it's worth it.

We also used this as an opportunity to ditch the server, so if your broadband is up to it, take their Cloudconnect option. No more worries regarding backups, connecting to work PC etc.

I find Taxcalc for both accounts and tax returns quicker and easier to use. Only downside to me is the lack of P11d software...we add to use Taxshield last year which was a little challenging !
