Interesting, just wondering if anyone here has thoughts about this.
Looks more like they are targetting the freelancers and contractors.

Sounds great!
-Save 13 hours* a week on admin
-Get back 8.5x* more in tax than you pay for Ember
-Get expert accounting and tax advice in 10 minutes
let me guess.....with one press of a button your accounts are prepared and return filed....
"Leveraging Open Banking, Machine Learning & Making Tax Digital, Ember is the first solution to automate the entire accounting process from bank transaction through to tax submission without ever leaving the platform, rendering expensive accounting software and manual bookkeeping redundant."
And if you pay for an add-on, you can use your vacuum-cleaner (via Bluetooth) to suck the data from all that pesky paperwork straight into the HMRC submission!
Whenever too many buzz words are used you know it's a load of old cobblers. Every time I see a company touting 'AI' I just roll my eyes now
Agree
Buzzwords "hide" the inability to comunicate effectively and efficiently.
Rubbish untrustwothy websites are covered in buzzwords
What's with the UK qualifier?
Probably no processing at all (just submits figures extracted from bank)?
The website say they will advise.
Eg you could save tax if you have dividends and not PAYE income
Called ember because it later bursts into flame?
Their advertising team maybe needs to chat with the SM Band
"Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin' flame
Burnin' flame full of desire
Kiss me baby, let the fire get higher
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round
I heat up, I can't cool down
My situation goes 'round and 'round"
As some shortlisted and winners of Practice Excellence would say:
" We will disrupt the market".
The standard response to many queries on this board is “what does your accountant say?”
Is there now to be a standard counter to that - “But Ember say that I don’t need an accountant”
(To which of course there is standard counter-counter)
Almost tempted to sign up for my most complex clients! £39pcm is a bargain! That us until you read the terms!
- No professional advice offered!
- Only responsible for data entered into software, not its accuracy!
- Tax returns, accounts etc. all at an extra cost!
Strangely, Natwest are a major backer yet, they are firmly 'in bed' with FreeAgent!?
This isn't an alternative to an accountant! It is an alternative to Xero with a Xero Partner Accountant doing the final accounts and tax for an extra fee!
Well said! Prima facie I too would be tempted to outsource Pareto-end-of-the-spectrum customers to them.
I'm astounded that they've developed their own MTD compliant accounting software solely for their own clients' use. Somebody with very deep pockets and an easy-going nature must be backing this. Either you develop software for a wider audience, or you buy in if it's just for your own clientele. All very disruptive, in a train-crash style fashion.
Just another competitor, like Crunch, who have built their own software to do the job that other accountants do using Xero, QBO, FreeAgent etc. Will fill a spot in the race to the bottom client niche which is an area I have no need to specialise in.
