Help please -Vat and non MTD clients

How do I file vat returns for non MTD clients?

Didn't find your answer?

I have seen others have had this problem but cannot find the post to resolve. I have signed in the old way and its not letting me file a return for the quarter ended 30 June. I have gone to the agent services account and it only provides vat returns for quarter September how have others resolved this please?

I thought MTD for VAT was compulsory for returns starting on or after 1st April

Not if turnover is under the VAT threshold. The main change was HMRC no longer allow non-MTD returns to be filed using commercial software. And non-MTD returns can only be filed via an agent's Agent Services Account, but in answer to the OP's question, I have managed to file some June returns so there must be a problem with the client's record, try asking HMRC via webchat.

Haven’t needed it yet as I was able to file 30 June under the old system.

Thanks for the link exactly what I was looking for. I have just now tried to follow the ATT instructions but HMRC is saying there is a problem with the service! All this faffing takes so much time.

Would the OP clarify whether the turnover is under the VAT threshold

I've just logged in to our agent VAT account for a non-MTD for VAT client company, and have the same problem as you.

I can:
(a) view previously submitted VAT returns, up to q/e March 2021;

I cannot:
(b) file the q/e June 2021 VAT return; or
(c) alter the client's registration details.

In both cases (b) & (c), above, I get transported to a HMRC page informing me:
Access Denied
You have tried to access a page that you have no permission to view.
Please click 'Next' to proceed.

Clicking "next" takes me to a page informing me I have logged out of the agent account.

Are you receiving similar messages, OP?

I'll see whether I can file the VAT return via the client's Govt Gateway Account, and report back later.

Yes that was the problem I was having and then I have had a message stating there is a problem so I have given up for now!

I had this for a May VAT Return. I logged into my Agent Services Account and was somewhat relieved to find the VAT Return there ready to file. I was able to type in the figures to the boxes and submit the Return from there, without having to register the client for MTD.

Thanks, so it sounds as if the client has been upgraded to the new agent platform, but the old platform is unable to access that because I don't have passwords saved/remembered (so instead the old platform kicks me into cyberspace).

I find that the different HMRC sites get confused (by cookies) if you try and log into the other one from the same browser window. I keep my main browser window for the "old" agent account and open a new private window if I need to access the ASA.

Why oh Why do we have to jump through HMRC software loops just to give them the answers ??

Well I still can not submit any Vat returns for my non MTD clients and cannot contact anyone in HMRC. Is there a link to say there are issues and what you should do? God help us when MTD comes in for income tax this is a farce.

Does your client have their own Govt Gateway account that you could log in through, and then add VAT services to that (ie their) account?

Why would I ask my client to do my job? We shouldn't need to have to work around the system, it should work before they implement it. Sorry but this is driving me mad!
